I first got the call about Make it at Market when I was still training at the National School of Blacksmithing in Hereford. I jumped at the chance. Although I didn’t know much about the program, I figured that a production that seeks to celebrate different crafts and elevate small businesses was something I wanted to be part of.
I had finished college two weeks before arriving at Waterperry Gardens for my first day of filming. Suffice to say I had imposter syndrome! How was I going to compare to people that had been in business for years? I was starting from scratch with my business, developing my own products for the first time and creating a signature style. Not to mention my makeshift workshop at home had flooded. It was a plunge into the deep end to say the least!
I could never have imagined how my life was going to change over the next 12 months! What started as a need to escape the turbulent world of teaching has become the most amazing journey of learning and development, as well as some serious hard work and dedication.
I will forever be grateful to Flabbergast Productions, the BBC and my amazing mentor, Adrian Wood for believing in me and providing me with this opportunity to follow my dream, showcase my work and best of all, share my love of blacksmithing with others.
